Please consider signing this petition. No one thinks they need the criminal justice system themselves but sometimes you can be in the wrong place at the wrong time. A moment’s inattention whilst driving could land you in court on serious charges if there is an accident. Equally you could be the victim of a crime where you would wish to see the perpetrator dealt with by a properly functioning system.
Even if you do not consider that it will touch you or your family, a properly funded and fully functional criminal justice system is essential in any civilised society and is necessary to protect the rights of our citizens whether they be complainants, witnesses or defendants. It is falling apart due to decades of cuts and underfunding. The budget is tiny compared to health, education, defence etc so it will not take billions to start fixing it. This is not just about legal aid but the whole system.
